Google ferry's last ride is today

The Triumphant ferry's Google rides seem to be at an end.

The Google-hired ferries skimming Bay Area waves are coming to the end of their pilot period, with their last scheduled rides running today, according to the Contra Costa Times.

Amidst the ire of San Francisco protesters fuming over Google buses, the company opted to experiment with alternatives to the buses: ferries. Two ferries from San Francisco and one from Alameda scooped up Google employees day by day for the month of January.

A Google spokesperson confirmed with the Bay Guardian that the pilot was ending. A source close to Google confirmed that they would "evaluate the results and viability of ferries as a more permanent solution."

No word from the protesters yet on if they'd block Google ferries via kayak, rowboat, or sloop.

For the full story, check out the Contra Costa Times piece, here.

Usually the purpose of a blog is to have a point, or perhaps provide some news. Since the Bay Guardian does not provide any new there must be a point.

Ok, then if the same people who stopped the buses try it with the ferries can they be charged with piracy.

I've been reading that the real reason that google chartered these ferries was so they could dump hazardous waste in the bay. A cheaper alternative to paying for ewaste disposal. People need to be aware.

It wasn't a too far fetched claim.

...and anyhow, as long as they don't block MUNI bus access to MUNI's own stops, there isn't any reason to.

the high seas and interrogate the crew and captain to ensure an acceptable level of political correctness.

SF Bay; though somehow I think they'd never use it on a Google ferry.

These blue-clothed members of our City Family tirelessly ply the waters of SF Bay looking for bad guys--or the closest facsimile they may be able to recognize--in a sizeable fleet of hand-me-down USCG boats for which we only have to pay the gas and upkeep. On nice days they practice with the Jet Skis that were deemed necessary after the tragic drowning of some children off Pier 7 several years ago at the hands of their crazed mom.

Hooray SFPD Marine Unit! Hooray City Family!

I'm sure google is loving it.

I think I'll try and find out. By googling.
